Workshop · Sunshine North VIC 3020
Routes, travel times and parking from twenty Melbourne suburbs to 60 Balfour Avenue, Sunshine North, Victoria 3020.
The Rapid Gloss workshop is at 60 Balfour Avenue, Sunshine North, Victoria 3020, just off McIntyre Road between Ballarat Road and the Western Ring Road. It is about four minutes from Sunshine, nine from Footscray and twenty from Melbourne CBD outside peak. Park in the marked bays at the front.
The workshop is the base for our workshop car repair services — multi-panel work, resprays, structural repairs and insurance jobs — and the home of the vans that run our mobile car repair services across Melbourne.
If the repair suits mobile work, you do not need to make this drive at all. If it does not, the routes below cover the twenty suburbs we service most often, with distances, off-peak travel times, tolls and where to park when you arrive.
Turn off McIntyre Road into Balfour Avenue and we are on the right-hand side, in the industrial pocket north of Wright Street.
Coming from the south along McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and take the next available left. Coming from the north down Sunshine Avenue, work across to McIntyre Road and turn right into Balfour Avenue.
Park in the marked bays at the front rather than on the street itself, which carries truck traffic through the working day. Reception is inside the main entrance. Bring your keys and registration details, and if the job is an insurance repair, the claim number and assessor details as well.

McIntyre Road is the road to navigate by, and Sunshine Station is the nearest major interchange.
McIntyre Road runs north from Ballarat Road up to the Western Ring Road, and Balfour Avenue is off it on the eastern side. Sunshine Marketplace sits south of us on Hampshire Road, and the Ballarat Road and Wright Street intersections are the two sets of lights most routes pass through.
Coming by train, Sunshine Station is served by both metropolitan and V/Line regional services, and Ginifer Station is also close. Bus services run along McIntyre Road. Check current lines and timetables on the PTV Sunshine Station page before you travel. A good number of customers drop the vehicle in and continue their day by train rather than waiting on site.
Between 2.1 km and 24.8 km, or roughly four to twenty-eight minutes off-peak, for the twenty suburbs we service most often.
Distances and travel times below are off-peak estimates measured to 60 Balfour Avenue. Melbourne peak-hour traffic can add ten to twenty minutes on the longer routes, so check live conditions before you set out. Where a route uses CityLink, current toll prices are on the Linkt Melbourne toll calculator.

Turn-by-turn notes for all twenty, including the pinch points that slow each run.
From central Footscray, join Ballarat Road (A300) at the Nicholson Street end and head west. Stay on Ballarat Road through the Ashley Street and Duke Street lights, past the Braybrook shops, and take the right turn into McIntyre Road. Follow McIntyre north, cross Wright Street, then turn left into Balfour Avenue. We are on the right-hand side. Off-peak the run takes about nine minutes across 6.5 km; between 7.30am and 9am the Ballarat Road lights add five to eight minutes, so allow a little extra for a morning drop-off. Park in the marked bays at the front of the building and come to reception.
From Hampshire Road, head north and turn into McIntyre Road. Follow McIntyre straight through the Wright Street intersection and past the industrial frontages on your left, then turn right into Balfour Avenue. The workshop is a short way along on the right. It is 2.1 km door to door and takes about four minutes outside peak, though the McIntyre Road and Wright Street lights can add a couple of minutes on a weekday morning. There are marked bays at the front of the building; park there rather than on Balfour Avenue itself, which carries truck traffic through the day.
From Braybrook, head north on Ashley Street and turn left onto Ballarat Road. Continue west past the Central West Shopping Centre frontage, then turn right into McIntyre Road at the lights. Follow McIntyre north across Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue; the workshop is on the right. The trip is 3.4 km and takes about six minutes when the road is clear. Ballarat Road carries heavy freight all day, so the right turn into McIntyre can be slow between 4pm and 6pm. Use the marked bays at the front of the building on arrival.
From Maribyrnong, take Rosamond Road and turn left onto Ballarat Road, heading west. Stay on Ballarat Road through the Ashley Street lights and past the Braybrook shops, then turn right into McIntyre Road. Continue north across Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. It is 6.8 km and about ten minutes when the road is clear. The Highpoint end of Rosamond Road is slow on Thursday evenings and all weekend, so if you are coming from the shopping centre side, allow extra. Marked parking is at the front of the workshop.
From Yarraville, head west on Somerville Road, turn right onto Duke Street and follow it north to Ballarat Road. Turn left and continue west through the Ashley Street lights, then turn right into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The run is 9.2 km and about thirteen minutes outside peak. Somerville Road backs up behind port traffic on weekday mornings, so if you are travelling before 9am, Francis Street to Williamstown Road and up through Yarraville’s northern edge is often quicker. Park in the marked bays at the workshop entrance.
From Williamstown, head north on Melbourne Road, then turn left onto Kororoit Creek Road and continue west to Fitzgerald Road. Turn right and follow Fitzgerald Road north across Geelong Road and the Western Ring Road, then continue to Wright Street and turn right, and left into Balfour Avenue. It is 13.5 km and about eighteen minutes. The Kororoit Creek Road level crossing and the Fitzgerald Road ring-road interchange are the two points that slow this run, particularly between 4pm and 6pm. Park in the marked bays at the front of the workshop.
From Altona, head north on Millers Road and continue to Geelong Road. Cross onto Fitzgerald Road and follow it north over the Western Ring Road, then continue to Wright Street, turn right and take the left into Balfour Avenue. The trip is 12.1 km and around sixteen minutes off-peak. Millers Road carries container traffic through the middle of the day, and the Geelong Road intersection is the slowest point on the route. If you are coming up in the afternoon, Kororoit Creek Road to Fitzgerald Road is often the easier run. Park at the front of the building.
From Point Cook, head north on Sneydes Road or Point Cook Road to the Princes Freeway (M1) and travel east. Take the Western Ring Road (M80) north, then exit at Ballarat Road and head east. Turn left into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The distance is 20.4 km and around 24 minutes off-peak, but the M1 inbound between 7am and 9am regularly adds fifteen minutes or more. Most Point Cook customers use the mobile service instead. If you do drive in, park in the marked bays at the front of the workshop.
From Werribee, join the Princes Freeway (M1) at Duncans Road or Heaths Road and travel east. Take the Western Ring Road (M80) north, exit at Ballarat Road and head east, then turn left into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. It is 24.8 km and roughly 28 minutes when the freeway is clear. Inbound M1 traffic in the weekday morning peak commonly adds twenty minutes, so a mid-morning or early-afternoon drop-off is far more predictable. Marked parking is at the front of the building.
From Caroline Springs, take Caroline Springs Boulevard to the Western Freeway (M8) and head east. Exit at Ballarat Road and continue east, then turn left into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. It is 11.7 km and about fifteen minutes when the freeway is moving. The M8 inbound is heavily loaded between 7am and 9am and the Ballarat Road exit queue is the pinch point, so allow an extra ten minutes for a morning drop-off. There are marked bays at the front of the workshop.
From Taylors Lakes, head east on Melton Highway and turn right onto Sunshine Avenue. Follow Sunshine Avenue south across Taylors Road and the Western Ring Road, continuing through to the Wright Street area, then turn right into Balfour Avenue. It is 10.9 km and about fourteen minutes off-peak. Sunshine Avenue backs up around the Keilor Downs shops and the ring-road interchange in the afternoon, so an earlier drop-off runs cleaner. Park in the marked bays at the front of the building and come to reception.
From Keilor East, head south on Milleara Road and turn onto Keilor Park Drive, then continue to Sunshine Avenue and head south. Follow Sunshine Avenue across the Western Ring Road and continue through to Wright Street, then turn into Balfour Avenue. The distance is 7.1 km and the trip takes about ten minutes. The Keilor Park Drive and Ring Road interchange is the slowest part of this route on a weekday afternoon. There is marked parking at the front of the workshop; reception is inside the main entrance.
From Essendon, head west on Buckley Street, continue onto Keilor Road and follow it to Sunshine Avenue, then turn south. Follow Sunshine Avenue across the Western Ring Road and continue to the Wright Street area before turning into Balfour Avenue. The trip is 9.4 km and about thirteen minutes off-peak. Buckley Street’s level crossing area and the Keilor Road shops are the two slow points, particularly on Saturday mornings. Marked parking is available at the front of the workshop.
From Moonee Ponds, head north on Mt Alexander Road and turn left into Buckley Street, following it west through Essendon. Continue onto Keilor Road, then turn south onto Sunshine Avenue, cross the Western Ring Road and continue to Wright Street before turning into Balfour Avenue. It is 10.2 km and about fourteen minutes off-peak. The Junction and the Mt Alexander Road tram corridor are slow through the middle of the day, so leaving from the Buckley Street end saves time. Park in the marked bays at the workshop.
From Brunswick, head west on Moreland Road, then take Pascoe Vale Road north to the Western Ring Road (M80) and travel south and west. Exit at Ballarat Road, head east briefly, then turn into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. It is 14.6 km and about nineteen minutes when the ring road is clear. The M80 between Pascoe Vale Road and Calder Freeway is congested from mid-afternoon onwards, so a morning drop-off is more predictable. Park in the marked bays at the front of the workshop.
From Coburg, head west on Bell Street, then take Pascoe Vale Road to the Western Ring Road (M80) and travel south. Exit at Ballarat Road, head east briefly, turn into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The trip is 15.3 km and about twenty minutes when the ring road is moving. Bell Street between Sydney Road and Pascoe Vale Road is congested for most of the day, and the M80 slows from mid-afternoon, so a mid-morning run is the most predictable. Park at the front of the workshop.
From Preston, head west on Bell Street and continue to the Western Ring Road (M80), then travel south and west. Exit at Ballarat Road and head east, turn into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The distance is 19.1 km and around 24 minutes with clear roads. Bell Street is the constraint on this route — it is slow across most of the day between High Street and the ring road — so allow additional time rather than assuming the off-peak figure. Marked parking is at the front of the building.
From the CBD, head west on Dynon Road or Footscray Road and continue onto Ballarat Road at the Footscray end. Follow Ballarat Road west through the Ashley Street lights, then turn right into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. It is 14.2 km and about twenty minutes outside peak. Dynon Road carries port traffic and is slow through the middle of the day, and the Footscray Road interchange is the pinch point. CityLink is available but adds a toll for very little time saved on this route. Park in the marked bays at the workshop.
From South Yarra, join CityLink (M2) via Punt Road or Toorak Road and head north, then follow the Western Ring Road signage and exit at Ballarat Road. Head east briefly, turn into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The trip is 18.9 km and about 26 minutes off-peak, with a CityLink toll of roughly six dollars. An untolled alternative runs via Alexandra Avenue and Dynon Road but adds ten to fifteen minutes. Most South Yarra customers use our mobile service instead of making this drive.
From Richmond, join CityLink (M2) at Punt Road or Burnley and head north, then follow the signs to Dynon Road and continue west onto Ballarat Road. Follow Ballarat Road west, turn right into McIntyre Road, cross Wright Street and turn left into Balfour Avenue. The distance is 17.4 km and about 24 minutes off-peak, with a CityLink toll of roughly six dollars. The Burnley tunnel and the Dynon Road exit are both slow in the evening peak. Most Richmond customers use the mobile service rather than making this drive.
Our workshop is at 60 Balfour Avenue, Sunshine North, Victoria 3020, just off McIntyre Road in Melbourne’s west. It is roughly four minutes from Sunshine, nine minutes from Footscray and around twenty minutes from Melbourne CBD outside peak hour.
We recommend sending photos of the damage first so we can quote the repair and book a time. That way the right materials and the right amount of workshop time are set aside for your vehicle rather than you waiting for an assessment.
Use the marked bays at the front of the building rather than parking on Balfour Avenue itself, which carries truck traffic through the day. Reception is inside the main entrance.
Bring your keys, the vehicle registration details, and if the repair is going through an insurer, the claim number and the assessor’s details. If you have already received a quote from us, quoting the reference speeds things up.
Yes. Sunshine Station is the nearest major interchange and Ginifer Station is also close, with bus services running along McIntyre Road. Check current lines and timetables on the PTV Sunshine Station page before you travel.
Most routes from Melbourne’s west and north-west are toll-free. Coming from the inner south-east or inner east, the quickest run uses CityLink, which is tolled. Current prices are on the Linkt Melbourne toll calculator.
Send photos of the damage and we will quote the repair before you drive anywhere. If mobile service suits the job better, we will tell you that too — you can always book a repair with Rapid Gloss Melbourne at your own address instead.
